Campus Network Infrastructure Upgrade
Overview
The Infrastructure & Operations team will be upgrading the core campus network switches to 10 Gbps fiber backbone links during a planned maintenance window on April 15, 2026, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
This upgrade affects all buildings connected to the primary distribution layer. Intermittent connectivity drops of five minutes or less are expected per building while each switch is migrated.
What to Expect
- Intermittent network interruptions of 5 minutes or less per building
- Wired and wireless connectivity will be briefly impacted in affected areas
- VPN connections may need to be re-established after each building’s switch-over
- All services should return to normal by 10:00 AM at the latest
Impact by Building
| Building | Estimated Window |
|---|---|
| Admin Tower | 6:00 AM – 6:30 AM |
| Science Complex | 6:30 AM – 7:15 AM |
| Library | 7:15 AM – 7:45 AM |
| Student Center | 7:45 AM – 8:30 AM |
| Engineering Hall | 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM |
What You Should Do
- Save all open work before 6:00 AM on April 15.
- Avoid scheduling critical video calls during the 6:00–10:00 AM window.
- After the upgrade, if network access does not restore automatically, disconnect and reconnect to Wi-Fi or restart your VPN client.
Benefits of This Upgrade
- 3× increase in backbone throughput across all campus buildings
- Reduced latency for inter-building traffic
- Improved resilience with redundant uplinks on all upgraded switches
- Foundation for planned 25 Gbps access layer migration later in 2026
