Before You Begin

You will need:

  • Your institutional email address and current password
  • A smartphone (iOS or Android) or a phone number that can receive SMS

  1. Download Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. On your computer, go to identity.example.edu/mfa
  3. Sign in with your institutional credentials
  4. Click Add sign-in method and select Authenticator app
  5. In the Authenticator app on your phone, tap + > Work or school account > Scan QR code
  6. Point your phone camera at the QR code shown on screen
  7. Approve the test notification - enrollment is complete.

Option 2 - SMS Text Message

  1. At identity.example.edu/mfa, click Add sign-in method > Phone
  2. Enter your mobile number and select Text me a code
  3. Enter the 6-digit code you receive and click Verify

Note: SMS is less secure than the Authenticator app and is not recommended for admin accounts.
